Terms of use
These terms explain how you may use chazut.org and what Chazut Foundation ("we", "us") does and does not promise. Please read them with our Disclaimer and our Privacy notice.
This page is published in English, and we apply the English text.
In plain wordsEn palabras sencillas
This site is not engineering advice and not an assessment of any particular building. You may read, save, link to and quote the pages and the papers, and share unchanged copies of a paper once it is open to every reader, citing it. Please do not present a paper, a figure or a number from this site as an assessment of a particular building. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for loss or damage from using or relying on the site or its papers. This does not limit liability for fraud, for harm done on purpose or for gross negligence, or any liability that the law where you live does not allow to be limited or waived.
1. What this site is
Show the section textMostrar el texto de la sección
- Research notes ("papers") on the seismic assessment of existing buildings in Colombia, under the Colombian seismic building code, NSR-10. They are in English and in Spanish.
- Descriptions of a software tool that we are developing. The tool is being built to draft an assessment of an existing building for a licensed engineer to review, correct and sign. It is not available for use, and we do not offer it to anyone.
2. What this site is not
Show the section textMostrar el texto de la sección
- It is not engineering advice and not an assessment of any particular building.
- We do not act as anyone's engineer or adviser, through this site, its papers or our email.
- We do not offer to evaluate, analyse, inspect or review any particular building. We do not answer questions about whether a particular building can be occupied.
The Disclaimer page says more about what the site and its papers are not.
3. How you may use the site
Show the section textMostrar el texto de la sección
We claim no exclusive right in the text of the papers or of this site's pages. You may:
- read, print and save the pages and the papers;
- link to any page;
- quote from the pages and the papers, and share unchanged copies of a paper once it is open to every reader of this site, citing it as our Copyright and citation page shows.
Material that a paper quotes from the studies it discusses stays its owners'. Nothing in these terms limits a use that the law allows.
Please do not:
- present a paper, a figure or a number from this site as an assessment of a particular building, or as our statement about whether a building can be occupied;
- change a quotation, a figure or a number in a way that changes its meaning, or leave out where it comes from;
- use the name Chazut Foundation or the Chazut logo to suggest that we wrote, reviewed or endorse something we did not.
4. Papers marked "In review"
Show the section textMostrar el texto de la sección
A paper that discusses a published study is marked "In review" until the study's authors have replied or their time to reply has ended.
You can ask to read a paper in review with the Request-access form on the Research page. If we give you access, you read it on this site by signing in with your email address, and your access opens every paper behind the sign-in, not only the one you asked for. The sign-in page is served by the company that hosts this site, at that company's own web address. That access is for your own reading and comment, and for you alone: please do not share it with anyone. Please do not publish, post or pass on a paper you read through the sign-in until it is open to every reader of this site, without sign-in.
To report an error in any paper, write to hola@chazut.org.
5. No promise of fitness
Show the section textMostrar el texto de la sección
We work to get every number right, and each paper states its method and its limits. Even so, we provide this site and any paper we publish as they are. We do not promise that the site or any paper is complete, current or free of errors, or that it suits any purpose you have.
6. Limits of our liability
Show the section textMostrar el texto de la sección
To the extent the law allows, Chazut Foundation and the people who work for it are not liable for any loss or damage that arises from using or relying on this site or any paper published on it.
This does not limit liability for fraud, for harm done on purpose, or for gross negligence. It does not limit any liability that the law of the place where you live does not allow to be limited or waived.
If a court finds part of these terms unenforceable, the rest still applies to the extent it can stand without that part.
